I'm not afraid to admit that I am envious of that guy's pole.

That said, I kind of think that to get the most benefit, pole shaking should be approached with a certain amount of ferocity. A little bit less "graceful demo with dramatic punctuation" and a little more "wrestling with an angry alligator" in terms of developing useful power.

There was a video out there of Chen Zhenglei demonstrating a long pole FORM. I found this especially silly, and not very different from what the video above is showing. In my view it's just a tool.

I agree, but that form is just fine. It contains many basic moves. it's fine for those who like forms in that way. It's just myself I don't need another performance. I would prefer to just work on all the basic moves on both sides removed from the aesthetic and flow concerns.
