Monkey kung fu sparring

I found this somewhat amusing.

The classical monkey boxing I've seen does not lend itself to tournament sparring, but good on these dudes for getting out there and doing their thing.

I am wondering what they are trying to do, because it does not look like either wanted to actually hurt the other.

Yeah, it kind of looks like they were doing a technique and then stopping to see if it worked or not. It may have been one of those strange tournaments where people have to do their techniques exactly like they look in the form, or it doesn't count. Because, apparently, some people think that's how gongfu works. I'm still happy that the one guy was rolling and jumping around like a monkey, though.
